Greetings! I hope all is going well for all of you as
you prepare for your upcoming seasons! I am writing this letter to
introduce you to Karen Sidwell, who will be a junior in our basketball
program next season.
I’ve had the pleasure of coaching Karen for the past two seasons,
and I’m looking forward to her junior and senior seasons, because
her passion to play college basketball has become an obsession! Her
obsession is reflected in her work ethic. She attends all workouts
and is usually the last one to leave. Her passion goes beyond workouts
with her team. She schedules private workouts to help improve her
offensive capabilities.
Karen is a leader at Maysville High School, both on and off the court.
On the court, she is very respectful of her teammates and is willing
to provide guidance to the younger players in our program. She is
also very respectful of the coaching staff. In the classroom, Karen
also excels and is well liked by her teachers and peers. This is a
true reflection of the guidance, discipline, and support she has had
from her parents.
Offensively, Karen excels. She has excellent form shooting the basketball.
Her greatest strength is her ability is to get to the basket and finish
or get to the foul-line where she was very impressive last season,
shooting 82% (83/101). She can also spot up and shoot the 3 pointer.
Defensively is the area that Karen will agree needs work. On the ball,
Karen is very solid. Off the ball, Karen needs to get better. Part
of this is because we ask Karen to guard different positions throughout
the game. She does excel when we run our trapping defensive sets,
because she has a great ability to anticipate the next pass being
made. I know, over the next two seasons, Karen will work to improve
all areas of her game. I am very confident in this, because I know
how hard Karen works in practice. Karen also understands the importance
of getting stronger and participates in strength and conditioning
class with our football coach, along with other students in our varsity
program. She is also an excellent athlete in both volleyball and track.
I rarely write recommendations unless a player is serious about taking
the next step to college basketball. It is one thing to say it, but
Karen is willing to make many sacrifices with her personal time to
become the best player she can be. She will be an asset to any college
basketball program and more so, she will be a great student-athlete
and represent her college well.
